Romi was forced to take 1 month off gym!

If you are a typical meat-head (a die-hard lifter/Gym lover) like me you probably train 5-6 times a week and say things like “beast mode” and “do you even lift, bro” etc and take pride in your muscular physique. You don’t take many days off because you fear you will lose muscles you worked hard for.

I only take time off when I was out of town and if there was no gym around, otherwise I always train 5-6 days every week sometimes twice a day. I love every second of weight training (I hate cardio, haha).

Some of us see taking time off as a weakness – a typical meat-head mentality driven by ego.

Something interesting happened to me recently. God (some say “life”) teaches us lessons by forcing you to go through situations that make us strong.

My second book on Amazon, The Truth About Weight Loss (published April 1st, 2015), was set to launch on March 18th, 2015. Because of a chain of unforeseen events I had to push it forward by two weeks.

I had been super busy during few weeks leading up to my book launch. There were also other critical events taking place which did not allow me to train at the gym regularly (I was not satisfied with training only twice a week).

Instead of training twice a week at the gym, I decided to conduct an experiment by taking 1 month off gym to experience life without gym training. I still took 30-45 minutes for outdoors cardio sessions 4-5 days a week. I will be back at the gym after April 18th.

I am happy with the results so far and I still have one more week to go away from gym I will post all physical changes I experienced and I will share other lessons I learnt 1 month after getting back to the gym (May18th).

I am in constant battle with my ego and I have made great progress and now I am at a point where others’ comments don’t affect me because I am in control of my emotions. I have strengthened by emotional health and mental health during this time away from gym.

Conclusion: You need to take some time off to let your body recover. Take one week off every 2-3 months to rest and recover. It will do wonders for you. If you want a REAL challenge, take 1 month off and experience the magic it does for your body. I am not going to tell you what happens.
